Petfinder.com has generously donated two months of free pet insurance to every pet adopted through any of the shelters on their website. If you are planning on adopting a cat from us (even one that is not pictured on Petfinder), and would like more information about the pet insurance, please give Jan a call!
If you have a barn or other large property, and are in need of a good mouser, look no further! We have two semi-wild cats that were brought into the shelter and cannot be adopted as housecats. They are both spayed/neutered and have had all necessary vaccinations. All they need is a roof over their heads (sometimes), food and water, and someone to look out for them. And, of course, the occasional mouse to chase! Theyve been at the shelter for a while now, and really need good homes. If you have room in your heart and on your property for one or both of these cats, please give us a call!
Did you know that if you shop online at Amazon.com or at PetSmart through our website, your purchase helps cats and kittens in need? Its true! And it doesnt cost you one extra dime! In fact, you can often get exclusive deals that you wont find just by going directly to their websites. Our link to Amazon.com will show you some great cat-related books, and you can either purchase what you see there or click through and find anything from DVDs to cookware. Petsmart often offers free shipping and special discounts if you use the link from our site. Either way, a percentage of your purchase is earmarked for supporting Cats Are People, Too. You can find both links on our home page.
In December of last year, we launched our new website at www.catsarepeopletoo.org with the intentions of getting more exposure for the club and letting people see what great cats are up for adoption. After all, reaching out to more people means more good homes for homeless cats and kittens. In addition to our local website, we also decided to post pictures of our adoptable animals at www.pets911.com and www.petfinder.org. The response from these two websites has been fantastic! Jan reports that inquiries have increased by about 200% since going online. People from all across the country can use these two databases to search for adoptable animals in their communities. (Pets 911 is also a great resource for those who have lost their cats or dogs.) If you haven't tried it out yet, just use either of the above addresses or check out the links section of our website. The website was also given a makeover in early February. In fact, you might recognize Humphrey as one of the new sites stars! In addition to links and club news, as well as adoptable cats, we have recently added an MSN Club and a message board. Here you can post pictures of your cats to share with other club members and also discuss a host of cat-related issues. Just click on the links above, or on Message Boards or Humphreys picture from the website to visit either of these two sites.
You can make a secure donation to Cats Are People, Too! Club, Inc. online with your credit card via Amazon.com's honor system. Every donation is tax-deductible and directly supports our efforts to help homeless cats and kittens. Thank you for your help! |
Jeff met Humphrey online and it was love at first site! Humphrey, previously known as Leonardo, was brought in to the shelter in December by his previous owner whose girlfriend demanded he get rid of the cat. Everyone at Cats Are People, Too fell in love with the sweet, all-white kitty. He soon went to our Luv-a-Pet Adoption Center at PetSmart, where his picture was taken to be posted online. We'd just recently set up our new website, as well as partnered with Petfinder online to help more kitties get placed in good homes. Well it didn't take long before this little guy found a new home. In fact, he was our very first Petfinder adoption ever! Jeff Liptak had always had three cats but lost one, Gus, to diabetes last spring. Years before, Jeff almost adopted a white kitty but decided against it when she showed signs of respiratory illness. So when he decided to adopt another cat, he thought he'd really like an all-white one. His local animal shelter's website only had two cats pictured, but they did include a link to Petfinder.com. Jeff checked it out and found 450 cats matching his criteria! (You can search both Petfinder and Pets 911 by type of animal, age, breed, coloring, etc.) Jeff says, "...As I moved through the results, there was Leonardo, an all white cat, located about 90 minutes from my home who was touted as extremely affectionate." He made an appointment to meet Al Kelly at the shelter, and once Jeff met Leonardo it was a pretty quick decision! "As I opened Leonardo's cage with my arm outstretched, he stepped right into my arm and went right into a loud purr. Talk about acing the audition! The medical records were fine, he seemed to interact well with the other cats. It was a simple decision; there was no 'Should I or shouldn't I' obsessing to do. As I drove home, Leonardo rolled on his back in the carrier. I'd never seen a cat do that before. Leonardo is Humphrey now, and as far as I'm concerned, it couldn't have worked out any better. I've told many of my friends about Petfinder, and if the occasion arises to use it again, I'll do so without hesitation." Thanks, Jeff! Jeff reports that Humphrey is doing quite well in his new home, although a little bothersome to his new big brother, Boo. (Aren't little brothers all the same?) We wish them the very best for many years of happiness to come!
