There is a rumor that Shon Rahrig is back in town (Columbus) and looking for animals... He was last thought to be in California. His specialty is torturing, mutilating and killing cats, but he has also killed puppies. Be sure on any adoptions to watch out for him, check driver's licenses, etc. It is a violation of his parole to own an animal, but he may use an alias. Please cross-post and spread the word. I'd love to catch this creep in the act of trying to adopt and send him back to jail. If you do satellite adoptions at pet stores, make sure the store is aware of this guy.

Shon Rahrig has a history of acquiring and adopting animals, torturing, maiming and murdering companion animals, mostly cats. He has adopted cats from Adopt-a-Pet, Citizens for Humane Action and Hudson Veterinary Hospital. He purchased a cat from Jack's Aquarium, and his girlfriend, Melissa LaVance, adopted on his behalf, a puppy from Franklin County Animal Control. According to Melissa, he has also obtained cats from his mother, Nancy Davis and from friends.

Shon adopted a cat from Citizens for Humane Action (C.H.A.) on January 26, 1999. In the early morning hours of February 6, Shon beat the cat, poked out its eye, broke its jaw legs, and left it bloody and in agony in a laundry basket in his apartment. He asked Melissa to come over and get it and take it to Delaware County Humane Society and tell them she found it along the road. She instead took it to Columbus Veterinary Emergency Service (CVES) who humanely euthanized it due to the extensive nature of its injuries.

Melissa contacted C.H.A. and advised them what had happened (we have the original tape of her message). C.H.A. transported the body from CVES to Capital Area Humane Society and filed an abuse report. Shon was subsequently arraigned and charged with one count of animal abuse. Shon at first plead not guilty, but changed his plea to guilty. On September 29,1999, Judge Pfeiffer sentenced Shon to 90 days in jail (of which 45 were suspended), 5 years probation, mandatory counseling and he was forbidden from owning any living thing during the 5 year probation period. He began serving his sentence on November 1.

UPDATE: Sean was seen in the last three months at the Petsmart on Sawmill Rd. (Columbus, OH). He was returning a cat tee pee and said that none of his 4 cats liked it. Customer tried to follow him but lost him. His license plate wasn't registered in his name.
